Joseph Dolphin was born 11 May 1883 and was baptised at the Holy Name, Manchester. His mother, Harriet Ann had died when he was very young in 1889. His father also called Joseph died in 1908.
He lived with his siblings, John, Mary Ann, Catherine & Robert, at 3 Oak Road, The Cliff, Lower Broughton. They seem to have been active at St Peter's Greengate where his elder brother John was in the SVP. Joseph became Chief Clerk in the Insurance Industry

Joseph Dolphin continued as a school manager until his death in September 1963 and had been the longest serving in that role.
In 1969 Monica Dolphin donated the St Luke's window in the new church and one of the new statues added at the time. Mrs Mary Monica Dolphin died on 6th February 1972. She left her entire estate to the parish. The Dolphin's had no children and neither did any of the siblings who had remained single. In the following October, this legacy enabled to Fr Brown to pay £9000 off the church debt.
